Rotary International's Day of Service

Four members of Larchmont Rotary volunteered their time in the Bronx to pack and sort surplus fruits and vegetables from the Hunts Point Produce Market on May 20th.  We joined Rotarians from the Bronx, Port Chester and Mount Vernon clubs along with other volunteers from the Bronx and Westchester.
The Produce Party was organized by the Grassroots Grocery, an NGO run by Dan Zuderer and his associates which he started in March of 2021.  Every Saturday, Grassroots rescues about 8,000 pounds of produce from the Hunts Point Produce Market, then partners and distributes it to more than 1,100 families in the Bronx and Upper Manhattan.  Each drop-off site has a community leader who is committed to getting this food to people in his/her neighborhood.

After repackaging the produce, the boxes of produce were loaded into volunteers' cars who then delivered it to the various drop-off sites.

Larchmont participants included: Michael Gedigk, Lester Nathan, Alex Vo and Marian White.  For further information, go to Grassroots Grocery's website at: www.grassrootsgrocery.org
