Peace and conflict prevention/resolution is one of the seven main focus areas of Rotary International. The October 24th meeting of the Larchmont Rotary Club featured member Mitch Weisburgh speaking about Conflict and Collaboration.

The meeting started out with a video demonstration of a difficult conversation where conflict derailed any possible beneficial outcomes, to the same conversation but where one of the parties was able to channel her abilities to empathize, align to their highest values, and innovate. This use of MindShifting techniques allowed both parties to convert a high conflict to a constructive conflict.

Mitch then described some of the ways that our mindsets, the words we use, and the tone of our voice can change situations from the reactive thought processes on the left to responses which allow for collaboration and progress. It’s the lack of these skills that is contributing to the divisiveness, frustration and lack of progress we all feel throughout society.

These are tools taught in Weisburgh’s new book MindShifting: Conflict and Collaboration which can be ordered on Amazon.
