Our guest speaker on February 27th was Anant Nambiar, the new county legislator for the seventh district, which encompasses Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Rye, Rye Brook and Downtown Harrison. The meeting was held at Lenny’s Steakhouse, where we’ve previously had a holiday party and a Blum Award luncheon.
Anant was born in India and grew up in Canada. He’s lived in Larchmont for the past 22 years and has three children with his wife Hemlata. His corporate career was in finance, working for a bank and several credit card companies.

His financial skills came in handy when he served on the School Board followed by the Town Board. Last year, when Catherine Parker finished her twelfth year on the County Board of Legislators, he decided to run for the office and was elected. (He’ll have to run for reelection this November, as the legislators’ election years have been realigned.) His term is for two years and each legislator represent approximately 60,000 residents. He serves on five committees: Appointments, Budget & Appropriations, Litigation, Infrastructure & Housing and Small Business.
Some of the topics he covered were:
- The local business scene
- The difference among school systems and how they affect students’ later lives
- Flood prevention and sewer systems
- High energy rates
- The county budget and how money is allocated to non-profit organizations
- Playland and its future
Although attendance was light, everyone there had an enjoyable time meeting Anant.
