Larchmont Rotary repeated as the champion team among all Westchester Rotary clubs for most money raised for the Alzheimer's Association in 2023. Westchester Rotarians raised over $14,000 in total. We reclaimed the Rotary trophy on January 17th at the Awards Ceremony held at the new Berkemeier Center at the Wartburg in Mount Vernon. Nationally, our team came in 16th and individually, Lester Nathan came in 21st among Rotarians.
Larchmont Rotary’s team participated for the second time in the annual Alzheimer’s Association® - Westchester County Walk to End Alzheimer’s on October 1st. The Walk’s main purpose is to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's care, support and research.
In support of the five different Walks to End Alzheimer's happening across the Hudson Valley, the Gov. Mario Cuomo Bridge was lit up in purple on September 21st.
Several hundred people from all over the county came to the Valhalla campus of Westchester Community College (WCC) on a warm and sunny afternoon. The Westchester Rotary clubs which participated in the Walk included those from: Peekskill, Scarsdale, Riverdale, the Bronx, White Plains and Pelham.
The team used emails, Facebook and telephone calls to raise money. Despite our small size, we raised over $6,000!
Larchmont’s team contained seven members, including Tom Geoffino & Barbara Crane from New Rochelle Rotary and Stephanie Buckley. Five members participated in the Walk – Captain Marion Anderson, Lester Nathan, Stephanie Buckley, Barbara Crane and Tom Geoffino. The team walked the mile and three-quarters course around the WCC campus.
The Alzheimer's Association® is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research. Its mission is to lead the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia — by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.
Thanks go to Westchester Walk Director Esther McCarthy of the Alzheimer’s Association NY Chapter for helping us with fund raising.
